'63 Standard Type I
Bryce Conard
San Antonio, TX
The car is
phenomenal! It is a 63 standard. Standards have only one horn grill,
no chrome, normal chrome parts are painted the body color or grey,
e.g., bumpers and hubcaps are grey. Door handles, hood releases etc
are body color. Has no trim as on a deluxe version. Standards were
never officially imported to the US. Other differences: it has a
36hp engine even though it is a 63. The owner of this car has done
some really great research on the standard and has restored this car
to look probably as good to an absolute original standard as
possible.
The car is one of the most superbly detailed cars that I have seen for an
original. On top of that, it is relatively rare for a 63. You just
gotta see this car and spend about an hour going completely over it
to appreciate it. It also helps to understand a standard as opposed
to a deluxe VW.
